Do I Need an Immigration Lawyer?

According to a recent study of immigration court cases, immigrants with attorneys were consistently granted relief and allowed to remain in America at a higher rate than unrepresented immigrants. The study noted that of immigrants who were detained or in jail and seeking adjustment of status or the green card, 41% percent of immigrants with lawyers were approved for a green card while only 21% of unrepresented persons were approved.

In asylum cases, 18% percent of jailed or detained represented immigrants were granted asylum while only 3% of immigrants without lawyers were approved.  Asylum cases in 1998 through the first seven months of 2000 indicated that immigrants were four to six times more likely to be granted asylum when represented by counsel.

The numbers speak for themselves.  If you want to protect your rights and have the best possible chance of winning your deportation case, you should have a lawyer.
