Driving Offenses &
Moving Violations
Many individuals are charged with misdemeanor
and petty misdemeanor driving offenses for conduct that,
unbeknownst to them, is illegal. It is a crime in Minnesota
to drive without automobile liability insurance, to drive without proof
of automobile insurance, and to have an outdated address on
a driver’s license, among other actions.
Revocation
What makes some driving offenses difficult
to deal with is that if an individual pleads guilty to some
of the offenses, then plea can result in the revocation of driving
privileges. Some of these convictions are also enhanceable,
meaning that should more than one conviction take place within
a range of time it may result in a gross misdemeanor.
Do Not Plead Guilty
At least, talk to a lawyer first. It is imperative that each driving charge,
as minor as it may seem, be analyzed to determine what effect
a conviction would have on driving privileges and, possibly,
insurance rates. Many prosecutors offer first-time offenders
a plea agreement which would allow them to maintain their
driving privileges, but prosecutors are not in control of
license revocation and any agreement should be reviewed before
it is finalized. |
